Role and Responsibilities
Responsible for the safety of the crew and vessel. In charge of the production and performance of the vessel. Management of crew and vessel, with daily reporting to the Port Captain at the base.- Ensuring discipline on board
- Ensuring the safety on board
- Keeping accurate record of activities
- Ensuring company policies are followed in the department
Skills, qualifications
- Minimum Chief mate certificate is required
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience
Commanding, reporting
- Strong leadership skills
- Good communicator
- Disciplined, organized
- Control over the operational system on the expenditure vs results
- Basic maintenance reporting
- Monitoring and reporting production
- Monitoring consumption of consumables on board
Navigation
- Knowledge of practical navigation
- Operation of radar, GPS, plotter, and other devices for navigation
- Knowledge of seamanship and cordage
- Upkeep of vessel and other operational documents
Fishing knowledge, prawn & fish handling
- Knowledge of the behavioral aspects of prawn (Penaeus species) and fish in relation to the fishing gear
- Knowledge of quad rig trawl systems
- Design and fabrication of trawls
- Mending of trawls
- Setting of otter boards and dummy doors
- Rigging of ballast chains, draw back chains and buoyant floats
- Rigging of the wires, blocks and stays
- Scope ratio
- Understanding the basic concepts of refrigeration, engines and winches on board
- Knowledge on the sanitation and personal hygiene requirements of trawler
- Packaging and storing knowledge of the processed products
- Understanding of CPUE, relation between RPM/consumption and production
