
Chief Engineer on board shrimp trawler (Lagos, Nigeria)
Our client has been operating in the fishing industry in Nigeria since 1995.
Job Summary:
- Ensure reliable operation of the vessel engines, machinery and all other mechanical equipment;
- Main Engine 540-620HP (Caterpillar 3412 or Cummins KTA19)
- Auxiliary engines 60-80KW (Caterpillar 3304 or Cummins 6CTA), 50Hz
- Refrigeration system
- Hydraulic deck platefreezer
- Refrigeration compressors (open, piston type)
- Other
- Verification of the core temperature of frozen product
- Ensure correct stacking of product in the fish hold (airflow)
- To define and implement duty roster for engine room team for maintenance on board the vessel.
- Provide hands-on support and guidelines to engine room team.
- Monitor the proper disposal of waste (as used engine lube oil) and other materials.
- Responsible for on board discipline of the engine department personnel.
- Responsible for the duties and training of the engineering officers.
- Carry out Engine Department assessments.
- Maintain vessel technical availability and adequate level of spares on board.
- The accurate monitoring and control of vessel AGO and lube oil consumption, the status of MGO (quality of fuel), lubricating oil quantities and refrigeration gas.
- Planning and bunkering of MGO, Lubricating oils and other fluids as appropriate.
- Responsible for the planned maintenance of all machinery and inventory of spare parts and of Dry Dock job list preparation, as per company regulations.
- Keep record of all technical consumables and spare parts stock on board and maintain adequate stock for safe vessel operation.
Daily duty:
- Supervise engine team and shore workers carrying out maintenance and/or repairs.
- Supervise and monitor daily vessels technical and maintenance activities.
- Execute the maintenance of the main propulsion, auxiliary machinery, deck machinery.
- Responsible for the accurate entry of all operational machinery parameters by the watch keepers/duty engineer.
Administrative , communication and reporting:
- Immediate reporting of any accident or damage to the vessel´s machinery or technical plant.
- Ordering spare parts and consumables in consultation with the Master .
- Responsible for verification and report of requisitions safe receipt on board.
- Responsible filling in the Engine Record Book including consumables. (oil, ref gas, filters)
- Provide full and adequate technical reporting from the vessel.
- Ensure technical status of the vessel before departure to avoid break down off shore. (Filling the pre-departure check-list)
- Responsible to fill the vessel technical report.

SKILLS, QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 2nd Engineer certificate is required
- Minimum of 10 years’ experience
